Why should record cover art be static when music isn’t? Why should a singular image represent several tracks on a record release? Why should branding visuals for records in the era of streaming be limited by packaging production constraints inherited from the era of vinyl? It doesn’t make sense to me, and it shouldn’t make sense to you. In order to challenge this outdated design paradigm, the latest record from swedish jazz group Oddjob – Kong – is released virtually wrapped in a series of eight looped animated covers – one for each track. This should be seen as a playful demand for change, in hope that it will inspire designers, artists and streaming companies to further develop new ideas on how streamed music could be presented and represented in a way more creatively attuned to contemporary music and visual platforms. Hope you like it. Remember. Jazz is love. And love is all.
